Cosmetic Procedures

Cosmetic procedures in restorative dentistry actually function together a lot of the time. Cosmetic procedures further the aesthetic component of your smile, while restoring your smile works to fix the structural problems to your teeth. Restorative dental care is important to bring back your natural smile and prevent future oral health issues.

Cosmetic procedures can include teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, crowns, bridgework, bonding, implants, and aligning. Any dental treatment that uses an aesthetic enhancement is considered cosmetic.

Dental Restoration Procedures

Dental restoration procedures include procedures that can used in combination with with cosmetic procedures:

  • Dentures are a removable replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissues. Complete dentures are used when all the teeth are missing and partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain.
  • Crowns are a custom-made, tooth-colored cap covering that encases the entire tooth surface restoring it to its original shape and size. Crowns protect and strengthen a tooth that is weak.
  • Fillings are typically amalgam (silver) or composite resin, which is a natural looking filling. With a healthy dental filling, it will help restore your tooth’s integrity while enjoying restored function and better oral health.
  • Bridges are a permanent replacement for missing teeth. Dental implants can be used to support cemented bridges, which eliminates the need for a denture.
  • Dental implants are surgical tooth roots that provide a strong foundation for fixed (permanent) teeth. They are placed into the jawbone where they serve as the roots of missing teeth. These new surgical roots become a sturdy base for supporting artificial teeth.
